Inside a Typical Roadshow

Watch what happens at a typical roadshow — from walking in to getting paid.

What to Bring

Four things that help us give you the best possible valuation.

Scrap gold chains, ingots, lockets and sovereigns

Before you set off

  1. The Items Themselves

Jewellery, watches, coins, silverware, or any precious metal items. There's no minimum.

  2. Proof of Ownership

Receipts, certificates, or original boxes can help establish provenance and may increase value.

  3. Photo ID

A driving licence or passport for legal compliance on transactions over a certain value.

  4. Bank Details

So we can pay you instantly via bank transfer there and then.

Arriving at the Venue

Once you've got your items ready, head to the venue between opening hours and we'll be ready for you.

The Valuation

What Happens at the Table

You sit down one-to-one with a valuer. Most people are done in 15 to 30 minutes — here is what those minutes look like.

  1. 1

We look at everything you have brought

A valuer sits down with you and goes through the lot — hallmarks, maker's marks, condition, stones, boxes and papers. There is no limit on how much you bring; a full jewellery box or a shoebox of odds and ends is normal.

  2. 2

Your items are tested in front of you

Everything stays on the table in your sight. Nothing is taken into a back room, and nothing is filed, scratched or acid-tested — the readings come off the screen and you see them at the same time we do.

  3. 3

We check today's prices, not just the metal

Gold and silver move daily, so your offer is built on the current London Fix. Where a piece is worth more for its brand, age or craftsmanship than its weight, we price it for resale instead and pay the higher of the two.

  4. 4

    You get a price, explained

We show you how the figure was reached in plain English, item by item, and write it down for you to take away. Ask as many questions as you like — you are not expected to answer there and then.

What we can test on the spot

  • XRF X-Ray Analyser

Refinery-grade testing that reads the exact gold, silver and platinum content in seconds — and finds unmarked or foreign-hallmarked pieces others write off.

  • Diamond & Gemstone Testing

Electronic diamond and moissanite testers plus loupe inspection, so stones are valued in their own right rather than lumped in with the metal.

  • Hallmark & Maker Identification

British and foreign hallmark references, watch movement checks and calibrated scales — the detail that separates a scrap price from a collector's price.
